Bill Hicks: The Dark Poet

BBC Radio 2 documentry originally broadcast Tuesday 21 August 2007

This documentary tells the Bill Hick's story, the controversial American comedian with a distrust of governments and a dark sense of humour. Or in his words "Chomsky with dick jokes." Bill Hicks died in 1994 from pancreatic cancer but he's a comedian who gets more popular each year. His anti-establishment sense of humour proved very popular with UK audiences in the early 1990's but at that same time found censorship at home in the US. He used comedy as a weapon to expose truths and show how he saw governments screwing people every day of their lives. He also happened to be achingly funny such was the accuracy of his comedy.
